Agriculture has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up on a farm in Gates County, North Carolina, in a community with just one stoplight. That upbringing shaped how I see the world and helped me understand the connection between the land, the food we eat, and the people around us. That connection led me to North Carolina A&T State University, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and my master’s degree in Agricultural Education. My educa

My approach to transformation is grounded in a simple belief reflected in the 212° mindset: at 211 degrees, water is hot; at 212 degrees, it boils. That one additional degree represents the intentional effort, consistency, and collective commitment that can move a school from good intentions to meaningful results.

I am Antonio Rattley, a soon to be third year director of student services at Carter G. Woodson School (CGWS) in Winston-Salem, NC. Working in a public charter school in the city of innovation is absolutely rewarding. Serving Kindergarten - 12th Grade students in the Piedmont area comes with many challenges. What an incredible weekend! Carter G. Woodson School was recognized as one of the original charter schools in North Carolina. It was truly special to stand in the vision of our founder, Hazel Mack, and my predecessor, Ruth Hopkins, alongside so many who continue to pour into CGW. I was grateful to be escorted by my husband and to stand beside our Board members and staff, proudly representing the strength and spirit of CGW. And I may be a little biased, but CGW truly showed up

As a teacher here at Carter G. Woodson School, I take a very particular pride in the celebration of Black History Month, as it was the creation of the namesake of our school. Manypeople have a misconception about Black History Month; that we were given the shortest month of the calendar to celebrate. When in reality, we gave ourselves, through Dr. Carter G. Woodson, Negro History Week in 1926, which expanded into Black History month in 1976. This was not just a time to learn
