Carter G. Woodson School has a wide range of activities, from the performance arts, athletics and parent meetings. We update the calendar regularly to ensure that parents are fully aware of the full range of activities that occur at our school.

Dual College Enrollment

 Through Career & College Promise (CCP), qualified high-school-age students in North Carolina have an excellent opportunity to pursue two or four-year degree, a certificate or diploma with free tuition while they are in high school.

Our program is based on preparing students for college or two-year technical institutions. We follow a Future Ready High School Curriculum. Every course that our high school students take aligns with admissions standards of all the universities in the UNC system

Agriculture & Food Science

Woodson’s Community Farm is our innovative hands-on-experience project and curriculum that’s part of our Agriculture and Food Sciences Pathway to STEAM Program. Students will learn soil conservation, beekeeping, how to raise hens, care for goats and animal husbandry.

Global Travel + Culture

Carter G. Woodson has sent over forty children to study, live, and immerse in the beautiful cultures of East Africa. High school students spent five weeks in Mombasa, Kenya. and were able to attend school and live with host families.

High School Orchestra

Performance Art

We know the beauty of the performing arts and how it can inspire and create better students. As a school, we have a marching band, a jazz band, and a pep band. We also have a thriving orchestral program where students are taught in small groups and one-on-one sessions.

Visual Arts

We recognize that children have so many different talents and are burgeoning artists. We incorporate the visual arts as a pedagogical approach in teaching and learning. Our teachers infuse visual arts across their curriculum.

Carter G. Woodson School has a long history of participating in the Mock Trial program. Attorney Hazel Mack, the school founder, has coached the teams in prior years as well.

Student Clubs

Clubs and organizations at CGW are opportunities for students to explore their interests and develop leadership skills.  Club meetings occur at various times as club advisors are available. Club offerings are always based on student interest.

Athletics

Carter G. Woodson Varsity sports teams are members of the CAASC Conference.

Our students are champions on and off their respective playing fields. We strive to teach our students the values of sportsmanship, teamwork, integrity, discipline, respect, and hard work.

All students are required to wear navy or white collared polo shirts with the Carter G. Woodson School logo embroidered on the front of the polo.  

Boys must wear:  Dark grey or navy dress pants with Belt  

You may purchase polo shirts at any store such as, Walmart, Target, Old Navy and Rainbows’
