A Word From Our Director of Transformation & Academic Excellence

I am honored to serve the Carter G. Woodson School community as Director of Transformation and Academic Excellence. My experience spans teaching, school administration, instructional leadership, and leadership coaching, with a consistent focus on strengthening instruction, building educator capacity, and creating the conditions for every scholar to achieve at higher levels.
My approach to transformation is grounded in a simple belief reflected in the 212° mindset: at 211 degrees, water is hot; at 212 degrees, it boils. That one additional degree represents the intentional effort, consistency, and collective commitment that can move a school from good intentions to meaningful results. For us, transformation is not one initiative—it is the accumulation of purposeful actions taken every day.
As we celebrate our Journey to 30, we are turning that mindset into action by challenging our entire school community to be intentional about the “30s” that can make a difference—30 minutes of daily reading, 30 intentional conversations between families and their children about learning and goals, and other purposeful opportunities throughout the year that strengthen academic habits, relationships, engagement, and achievement.
My priority is to ensure that this same intentionality is reflected inside our classrooms through a clear academic vision, high expectations, strong instruction, strategic use of data, and meaningful support for teachers and scholars. Equally important is strengthening the partnership between school and home so families understand what their scholars are learning, how they are progressing, and how they can actively support their success.
Our Journey to 30 is both a celebration of the legacy of Carter G. Woodson school and a commitment to what comes next. Together, through one more degree of effort, one more intentional conversation, one more opportunity to read, learn, grow, and connect, we can create the academic excellence our scholars deserve.
212° reminds us that small, intentional actions can create transformational results.

I really liked the block blast ideas that were shared about how to change things in school. It's very important that we make schools where every kid can do well in school and in life.
Space Waves is a fast-paced arcade game where players control a moving wave through narrow paths. The goal is to avoid obstacles and survive as long as possible while the speed gradually increases.
For anyone looking for a quick racing game that does not require a big download, PolyTrack is worth checking out. I like that the focus is mainly on driving and learning the tracks rather than complicated upgrades.
Spent way too long trying to get past one awkward jump in Drive Mad. The short levels make it tempting to try again immediately.
