Carter G. Woodson School proudly hosted its 2nd Annual Ultimate Black History Month Celebration, bringing together students, families, and community members for an evening centered on culture, connection, and excellence.
The event was filled with powerful student performances, meaningful moments of reflection, and opportunities for our community to come together in celebration. From our middle school poets to musical and live performances, our students truly shined, demonstrating both their talent and confidence.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of our Black Visionary Awards, where we recognized outstanding individuals whose leadership, service, and commitment continue to make a lasting impact in our community. We were also honored to introduce the inaugural Hazel Mack Day: Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating a community leader whose lifelong dedication reflects the spirit and legacy of Carter G. Woodson School.
This year’s Black Visionary Award recipients included:
Kellie Easton
Curtis McLaurin
Rev. Dr. Melva Sampson
Dr. Thomas Coaxum
Inagural Hazel Mack Day: Lifetime Achievement Award Recient:
Dr. Larry Little
In addition to the program, guests enjoyed local vendors, great food, and a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere that reflected the strength and unity of our school community.
We are incredibly grateful to our staff, students, partners, and volunteers who made this event possible. The success of this celebration is a testament to what we can achieve together.
We invite you to view our photo gallery to relive the moments and celebrate the impact of this special evening.
